 Julien Ducourthial (aka Otro / Otromatic) is an artist and graphic designer whose work explores the frontiers between abstraction and design. His use of low-tech images and computer code highlights the creative possibilities provided by early computer technology. Julien's pieces combine elements such as icons, pixel-art, freeware, and photography, resulting in what he calls "modern poetry as net-art".
Ducourthial is an active presence in the chiptune music scene through the contribution of designs for festivals and albums (including Bodenstandig 2000, Mesu Kasumai, and Receptors). He is also a frequent designer for record labels such as 8Bit Peoples and Retinascan.
Currently, Julien uses his website Ilbm (InterLeaved BitMap) as a place to conduct research and post new works. Also, he recently launched the web radio site Mazemod, which is dedicated to the various forms of music within the computer art scene.
